Match the oxygen sensor to its exact position

• Find which sensor has failed. Upstream sensors sit before the catalytic converter and control fuelling; downstream sensors sit after it and monitor the converter. A fault code that names the bank and sensor number identifies the position.
• Some engines use a wideband (air-fuel ratio) sensor upstream. It is not interchangeable with an ordinary oxygen sensor, so match the type as well as the position.
• Compare the part number, connector and wire length with your old sensor or a sensor catalogue. A listing that names several models, or a 4-sensor kit, may not match the sensor you need.
